Title: What You Hear
Fandom: Final Fantasy VII
Focus: General Series
Characters: Aerith
Prompt: 096. Writer's Choice: Voice.
Word Count: 100
Rating: G
Summary: Hearing the dead is natural for Aerith.

Hearing the dead was natural for Aerith. She often forgot it wasn't for others.

Her mother tried her best, but was still worried if Aerith mentioned a conversation she had overheard, even after hearing the people in question were alive. So Aerith tried to be less weird. It wasn't that fun anyway. The dead often mumbled.

The one voice that was always clear was the gentle hum of the Planet, as lost as it was in noise of Midgar. It was the voice she listened to at nights, when she wanted to imagine her birth mother singing her a lullaby.

Title: Seeking Purpose
Fandom: Final Fantasy VII
Focus: General Series
Characters: Aerith
Prompt: 019. White
Word Count: 100
Rating: G
Summary: Aerith hasn't figured out the White Materia yet.

She carried Fate in her hair. Thinking that didn't make her Materia any more special.

"One day you'll know what it's for," the Planet said and Aerith rolled her eyes. She knew she needed to hold on to it, but she was nevertheless frustrated. Now, the Materia was just a pretty thing. Useless.

Sometimes Aerith searched her own heart for answers, scratching for knowledge she knew was there. Sometimes she searched for her mother, trying to hear what she remembered to be her voice. The silence was her answer, silence of which color she knew to be the elusive white.

You know I'm no Aerith fan, but these were superb. My heart actually panged for her. Well done, friend!

Thank you, that's a great thing to hear! Convincing a non-fan is always a good achievement.

I think you're catching very well the naivete Aerith's actually held toward the happenings, not really understanding her role in a grand scope of things... and I like it.

Like the way she's portrayed as an usual girl, somewaht clueless even if good-willing, as she was in-game, and not the omni-sentient superwise AC figure.

Not that I dislike the second, but it's pretty much 'other' kind of Aerith... have attributed it more to Lifestream's influence, being in closer touch with the Planet, but I like the earthly-Aerith in fiction somewhat more.

Thanks for commenting! I feel the same way about earthly Aerith and the omni-sentient Aerith. One of the reasons I liked her was that she was a normal girl with an unusual life, and while AC Aerith did have the original's attitude, I thought something was missing. Maybe she gets better in other parts of compilation?

You're quite welcome.

Other parts of the compilation? How do you mean it, so there are like... going to be yet more parts? *feels somewhat being delayed with getting things and behind with being informed* *doesn't know if to be happy or bang head on the wall*

I meant Before Crisis and Crisis Core with "other parts", sorry about the confusion! The only new thing coming up I know is Advent Children Complete, and I hope Squeenix decides to concentrate on different things after that.

Ha. I love that detail of Aerith rolling her eyes at the Planet. :D It's such an... irreverent gesture an yet affectionate at the same time.

Yeah, I think that's pretty much how she feels about the Planet. It's like a relative whose lecturing you don't feel like listening to, but who you can't help but love anyway.
